Alki David has announced that 500 new channels have been launched by streaming video portal FilmOn.com.
He claims it is now the world’s largest free provider of internet television.
Speaking in London as he unveiled major licensing deals with premium content publishers, David said: “Whether you’re interested in news and sport or movies and entertainment, FilmOn has something for everyone.”
“We even have Premier League highlights of classic games via FilmOn Football; all free and straight to your desktop, mobile or tablet,” added David.
“We have more channels and video content than TVCatchup and Netflix combined. Our service is free in SD and we have ten hours recording time, which TVCatchup does not have.”
“We carry a total of 200 live TV channels, plus 500 video and audio podcasts from premium brands, including 45,000 new show titles that have been cleared for world-wide distribution.”
David also said that FilmOn has overtaken rival service TVCatchup in the UK after viewers flocked to watch The BRIT Awards online.
Latest figures from Alexa (the internet traffic monitoring site) show that FilmOn has been closing the gap on TVCatchup for the last six months and overtook its rival during the third week of February.
FilmOn CEO Alki David commented: “This is a fantastic achievement and it proves that audiences in both the UK and worldwide now see FilmOn as the No1 destination for live television.
“In addition to viewers watching The BRITS live we also saw a large increase in the number of people who recorded the event using our free cloud service.”
